Day 24

The last day of the calender is here and Santa has arrived with an engine for the train!  The inclusion of Santa with today's gift poses a question though.  If Santa is driving the train, then who is in the shower?
So, here's the final scene of all the gifts I received from this years' LEGO advent calender (excluding the shower & naked Santa).  Hope you enjoyed seeing the pictures and I hope that you all have a very merry Christmas tomorrow.  :)

Day 23

Only one day left!
Today's gift is a Christmas tree.  It comes with some little clear colored pieces to use as ornaments.  I was a little disappointed that there aren't enough pieces for all the branches, but it's still cute.  Come back tomorrow for the final advent calender gift.  :)

Days 21-22

Sorry about that!  I missed a day, so gifts 21 & 22 will share a post.  :)
Day 21:
Another part of the train.  Can't wait until it's complete!

Day 22:
A little toy helicopter.  Based on the fact that there are only 2 days left to the calender, I'm assuming that this is probably the last toy that the LEGO kids will be receiving this Christmas.

Day 20

Today's calender gift is another toy for the LEGO kids.  I'm sure they'll have fun with this little bulldozer.  :)

Day 19

Given that there's a train track on the floor, there had to be a train in the box somewhere.  Well, today I got the first piece.  Can't wait to get the others so I can put it together!

Day 18

Now, who would be using the shower that I received yesterday?
Why, Santa, of course!  Besides the question I posed yesterday as to why a family would have a shower in their living room, I would also like to know why Santa would be the one using it.  Although, I can at least say that he's wearing a hat and...a thong?  Because we all know that makes this slightly less creepy than if he was fully naked.  It did make me laugh though, so I won't dwell on the weirdness of it too much.  I chose to pretend that the top of the calender is Santa's house.  Besides thinking it weird to put this in the living room with the family, I also decided that the display is getting too cluttered.  I'm sure I'm probably going to rearrange the scene at least once more.

Days 8-17

Sorry about the lapse in posts, I was very busy writing papers for school.  Now that I'm finished with the semester, I have time to start sharing pictures again.  :)  Here are all the pictures for the LEGOs I got in my calender for day 8 through today.
Day 8:
My third LEGO dog.  :)  I would have preferred a little dog bowl, but this works, too.  The family must have given the dog hot dogs for Christmas.
Day 9:
An airplane to go with the crane.  I love that this calender comes with fun little presents for the minifigs.
Day 10:
Finally got one of the parents.  I was worrying that he kids were unsupervised, lol.  I love that there's another new torso.
Day 11:
A nice cozy fireplace for the family to sit around.  I'm kind of confused as to why they put a picture of a fireplace on the room layout if there was one included though.
Day 12:
When you have a fireplace, you have to have firewood!  Today's LEGO gift is an axe, 2 pieces of "wood" and a sleigh to pull them to the house.  I can't really imagine the dad chopping wood though.
Day 13:
If you have a fireplace, you may also need a firetruck!  Another cute little toy for the LEGO kids.
Day 14:
Finally, the family is complete!  And it looks like they're having baguette bread with their supper.  Yum  :)
Day 15:
As seen behind the mom, day 15's gift is a table, complete with lamp and chairs.  The lamp is made with 2 blank minifig heads (1 white & 1 clear).
Day 16:
A nice couch to sit on and watch the fire.  Also purr-fect for the LEGO kitty to climb on.  =^.^=
Day 17:
Today's model is a shower.  "Why would anyone have an open shower in their living room?" you may ask.  One can only guess.

Hope you enjoyed today's photos.  Now that I'm all caught up on the calender, daily posts will be making a comeback starting tomorrow.

Day 7

Today's model goes along with the drum set.  You can make a little LEGO band for Christmas!  I'm sure someone has probably made a LEGO guitar.  Or you could just have drums and keyboard.  I love the keys.  I've always wanted one of those big keyboards that has all the songs programmed into it, but the only one I've ever gotten is a little one.  It had songs on it, but they were "Happy birthday," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and a bunch of Christmas songs.

Day 6

This is probably my favorite model from the calendar.  Cats are one of the best things in the world!  :)  Now I have three LEGO cats (I also have six real ones =^.^=).  The little girl is cute, too.  I'm happy to see a new kind of shirt.  I'm not really sure how I feel about LEGO kids, yet.  I like the idea, but they just look a little weird.

Day 5

It's already the fifth day!  Times flies when you have LEGOs.  :)  The drumsticks are a little too big, but this drum set is still cute.  I tried to convince my mom to buy me a drum set once, but it didn't work.  When I was in the fifth grade, we were given the choice of choosing an instrument that we might like to play.  There wasn't an elementary school band, so I guess they just wanted to prepare us for middle school.  I wanted to play the drum, but they told me that I couldn't.  I never really figured out why.  So, I chose the flute instead and I gave up after 2 or 3 weeks.  When I got to middle school, most people went to band or chorus, but I chose to enroll in "Silent Sustained Reading."  Basically, we just sat in a classroom and read whatever we wanted to for 1/2 an hour.  Halfway through the year, they decided that SSR wasn't teaching us anything, so they got rid of it.  For the second half of the year, all the kids from my SSR class did random activities that would last a week or 2 (like learning basic Spanish, learning about current events, etc).  After that, they said in the seventh grade I would have to choose between band or chorus.  Not wanting to find out that I hate other instruments as much as the flute, I chose to go to chorus.  I've always been happy about that decision.  :)  I've always loved to sing (my dreams of becoming a professional singer will never happen because of my stage fright) and I stayed in chorus all through the rest of grade school.  My mom wanted me to continue singing once I started college, but I didn't join until the second half of my junior year.  I did, however, compete in a type of "America's Got Talent" Broadway contest during my freshman year.  They congratulated me for having the courage to participate, but I didn't make it past the first round.  I always screw up because I get so nervous.  That was actually the third time I had sung by myself in public.  The first time was during my high school's production of "The Sound of Music" during my senior year.  I was a nun (which my family thought was hilarious) and I just had one little solo verse during the opening scene.  I wasn't that nervous because all the lights were turned off except for some electric candles we (the nuns) were carrying.  Also, my chorus teacher made me take my glasses off to reduce glare from the lights.  So, I wasn't as nervous because I couldn't see the audience staring at me, lol.  The second time I did a solo wasn't too long after the musical.  All the seniors in chorus had the choice of doing a "senior solo" during the last concert of the school year.  I sang "Memory" from Cats and although I was shaking, looked like I was going to puke/faint, and forgot the words at one point, I got a standing ovation and my mom, aunt, and cousin cried.  Now that you know all about my musical history, I will stop talking and get off the computer (or at least my blog).  Tune in tomorrow to see the next LEGO model!

Saturday, December 4, 2010

Hello fellow LEGO lovers!

I've been meaning to do something with this blog, but I couldn't think of anything to talk about.  Now that it's December, I finally have a topic.  Hooray!  I bought a LEGO advent calendar last month and was very excited when I finally got to open the first little compartment on Wednesday.  So, I will be posting an entry for each day of my advent calendar.  Seeing as it's day 4 already, I'll just post the first 4 days in this entry and start with the daily entries tomorrow.

The front of the box folds down and there's this picture on the inside.  It's nice that they gave people a place to display things from the calendar.  I've only gotten the calendar once before and it didn't have this.  I just had little models all over our coffee table.  I won't give it away in case there are people who haven't heard about it, but there's one model in the advent calendar which doesn't belong in someone's living room, lol.
Day 1:
The advent calendar begins with a fun snowman to place outside the home on the display picture.  The arms are a bit strange, but I still like it.
Day 2:
On Thursday I opened the second compartment to find a little boy minifig with 3 swords.  I found it just a little weird that a kid would get a sword for Christmas, but after watching an episode of Super Nanny last night in which a couple let their sons play with machetes, I guess anything goes for some people.  I've always wanted a sword or a dagger, especially one with an awesome dragon handle.  My parents came to my apartment for Thanksgiving this year and my mom had to drag me away from a table full of swords when we went to a flea market (this was shortly after I responded to her question "why do you want one of those?" with "to play with it").  It probably wouldn't have been a good idea to buy one anyway, seeing as I live in a university owned apartment complex.  I'm not allowed to have candles, so I probably can't have weapons either.
Day 3:
Besides a sword, I've always wanted a skateboard.  However, seeing as I'm very clumsy, it's probably a good idea that no one's gotten me one of those either.  It amazes me how I manage to injure myself sometimes.  I love the fact that the calendar came with this, but the ramp bothers me because it's not flat to the ground.  Having never skateboarded myself, I really don't know anything about the sport (other than what I learned from playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and watching "Rocket Power"), but I would think that this would create some sort of problem.
Day 4:
As I open each compartment, I find my self singing "On the __ day of Christmas, my calendar gave to me..."  Well, when I opened the 4th one today I sang "On the 4th day of Christmas, my calendar gave to me...a thing."  Lol, I had to google the set to find out what it was.  Upon finding a flickr user who has already assembled everything, I discovered that it is a mini crane.  Of course, I recognized it as a crane as soon as I read this.  Of course it's a crane, what else would it be?  Actually, my first thought was that it was a snowblower, though I've never seen one that looked like that.

Well, that's it for the first 4 days of LEGO Christmas!  Make sure to come back each day up until Christmas to see what else is included.  :)
