Day 5

It's already the fifth day!  Times flies when you have LEGOs.  :)  The drumsticks are a little too big, but this drum set is still cute.  I tried to convince my mom to buy me a drum set once, but it didn't work.  When I was in the fifth grade, we were given the choice of choosing an instrument that we might like to play.  There wasn't an elementary school band, so I guess they just wanted to prepare us for middle school.  I wanted to play the drum, but they told me that I couldn't.  I never really figured out why.  So, I chose the flute instead and I gave up after 2 or 3 weeks.  When I got to middle school, most people went to band or chorus, but I chose to enroll in "Silent Sustained Reading."  Basically, we just sat in a classroom and read whatever we wanted to for 1/2 an hour.  Halfway through the year, they decided that SSR wasn't teaching us anything, so they got rid of it.  For the second half of the year, all the kids from my SSR class did random activities that would last a week or 2 (like learning basic Spanish, learning about current events, etc).  After that, they said in the seventh grade I would have to choose between band or chorus.  Not wanting to find out that I hate other instruments as much as the flute, I chose to go to chorus.  I've always been happy about that decision.  :)  I've always loved to sing (my dreams of becoming a professional singer will never happen because of my stage fright) and I stayed in chorus all through the rest of grade school.  My mom wanted me to continue singing once I started college, but I didn't join until the second half of my junior year.  I did, however, compete in a type of "America's Got Talent" Broadway contest during my freshman year.  They congratulated me for having the courage to participate, but I didn't make it past the first round.  I always screw up because I get so nervous.  That was actually the third time I had sung by myself in public.  The first time was during my high school's production of "The Sound of Music" during my senior year.  I was a nun (which my family thought was hilarious) and I just had one little solo verse during the opening scene.  I wasn't that nervous because all the lights were turned off except for some electric candles we (the nuns) were carrying.  Also, my chorus teacher made me take my glasses off to reduce glare from the lights.  So, I wasn't as nervous because I couldn't see the audience staring at me, lol.  The second time I did a solo wasn't too long after the musical.  All the seniors in chorus had the choice of doing a "senior solo" during the last concert of the school year.  I sang "Memory" from Cats and although I was shaking, looked like I was going to puke/faint, and forgot the words at one point, I got a standing ovation and my mom, aunt, and cousin cried.  Now that you know all about my musical history, I will stop talking and get off the computer (or at least my blog).  Tune in tomorrow to see the next LEGO model!
